yesterday was thanksgiving and we were able to travel to a house around the corner to have dinner with family...it is nice to be close to family. stacee's parents came down from Cheyenne to spend the day and since Dad just started his project in Texas my parents enjoyed a warm Texas thanksgiving. Stacee, Isabella & Gus are heading to Powell, WY on Sunday so I have a good deal of work on the schedule for the next week...we'll see how much i can really get done.

windows are in! ...well almost, all of the windows except for the one that Pella broke during delivery. Can you say '5 weeks to reorder', Pella can.  Still the best thing about the whole window replacement is the giant 16' sliding door we now have to our back yard. It will be even nicer in here once we get rid of all of these damn walls.

we finally have some work getting done around here, even though it is by someone else. our contractor finally got started on our window replacement. the windows are just a straight replacement, but there is going to be a couple of big changes with the doors. We are changing a 6'x6'-8" sliding door to a 16'x6'-8" double sliding door. The front entry door that is currently solid will turn to a full light door with two 18" sidelights.

on a separate note I am heading to the building department tomorrow to drop of the building permit application for the kitchen.

WOW! As I posted the last entry I realized the time from my last entry to now. More than a month since I thought the kitchen was going to take off...... well, maybe it finally will.
As a part of the process of getting new windows installed i found out that it is required to do asbestos testing before i can get a building permit for the kitchen remodel. (due to the demo & removal of popcorn ceilings). So I start the research and the first contact tells me that it will cost a minimum of $750 to have the testing done. After talking with the state I find that a homeowner can take the sample themselves (as long as it is their primary residence) and send it to an approved lab - this path for testing cost me a whopping $12 + postage for sending the sample. Anyway, I got the results and we are clean. Now I just have to print the drawing and fill out the application and we'll be off and running.

our kitchen remodel is going to really start to pick up some steam and i am going to try and document the process from here on out . . . the project started about 3-4 months ago when i built the first base cabinet. i'm now finished with the bases and have began to plan the demo / remodeling portion that takes place inside the house. this will start in the basement with some plumbing and electrical rough-in and then move up to the office, where am i going to move the office?  as soon as i get that carpet up in the office the house will begin to look like it is being worked on and that is when the pace will have to pick up, living in a construction zone is no fun.

so i will keep this up to date with post & pics. i look forward to the whole thing to progress. . .

food is good - I have yet to try any of the recipes on this site but they look really good.
another blog that loves food is Foodies in KC, which is a friend that lives in, you guessed it - KC (kansas city)

this photo is actually from the middle of july but it is an event that I thought it would be good to post. It is a photo from all of us playing in the Cache le Poudre (pornounced puder in these areas) river after a day of rafting with the office. good times

I've always been intrigued by business cards. It is great design challenge, you have to take a great deal of information and put it on a very limited area. I believe this person also likes a good b. card.

decisions, decisions. nikon or canon. body only with individual lens or a kit... right now i'm leaning towards the nikon, it seems to fit better in my hand. we'll see how things go and hopefully the next time I show and image of one of these cameras it is of my own.

well i think we've decided to stay with .mac for now and see how things go. the integration that .mac has with iPhoto is just to easy and convenient. Although I think I will try to keep this going to document our home remodel and other things - I will also try to keep posting to flickr on a regular basis. My goal is to get a new iPhone so that the camera that I always have with me is a good enough quality that you can actually tell what the photo is, unlike the current phone that I have.

this is basically a test on how we would link to our flickr site and if this works for our galleries . . .

number one

so we are trying this blogging thing to see if it is sufficient to replace our .mac account, so we'll see how it goes.
