yesterday was thanksgiving and we were able to travel to a house around the corner to have dinner with family...it is nice to be close to family. stacee's parents came down from Cheyenne to spend the day and since Dad just started his project in Texas my parents enjoyed a warm Texas thanksgiving. Stacee, Isabella & Gus are heading to Powell, WY on Sunday so I have a good deal of work on the schedule for the next week...we'll see how much i can really get done.

windows are in! ...well almost, all of the windows except for the one that Pella broke during delivery. Can you say '5 weeks to reorder', Pella can. Still the best thing about the whole window replacement is the giant 16' sliding door we now have to our back yard. It will be even nicer in here once we get rid of all of these damn walls.

we finally have some work getting done around here, even though it is by someone else. our contractor finally got started on our window replacement. the windows are just a straight replacement, but there is going to be a couple of big changes with the doors. We are changing a 6'x6'-8" sliding door to a 16'x6'-8" double sliding door. The front entry door that is currently solid will turn to a full light door with two 18" sidelights.
on a separate note I am heading to the building department tomorrow to drop of the building permit application for the kitchen.

As a part of the process of getting new windows installed i found out that it is required to do asbestos testing before i can get a building permit for the kitchen remodel. (due to the demo & removal of popcorn ceilings). So I start the research and the first contact tells me that it will cost a minimum of $750 to have the testing done. After talking with the state I find that a homeowner can take the sample themselves (as long as it is their primary residence) and send it to an approved lab - this path for testing cost me a whopping $12 + postage for sending the sample. Anyway, I got the results and we are clean. Now I just have to print the drawing and fill out the application and we'll be off and running.
